Purification of monoethylene glycol by melt crystallization

Separation of glycols with close boiling points and relatively high viscosity at their melting point is a challenge in the production purity products downstream biorefinery processes. In this work, efficiency layer melt crystallization process acetone as assisting solvent was evaluated for mixture monoethylene glycol 1,2-pentanediol. Solid-liquid equilibrium measured modelled NRTL modified UNIFAC group-contribution models to evaluate thermodynamic driving force crystallization. Layer conducted determine effect composition on purity, distribution coefficient impurity, crystal growth rate, yield different operating conditions.
